The recent surge in Trans-Pacific rates has caught much of the market off guard.

Only a few weeks ago, many market participants still believed demand recovery was relatively moderate. However, by late May and early June, space across multiple trade lanes tightened rapidly, with rates increasing sharply and some carriers planning additional increases of up to USD 1,000 in early June.

What makes this round of increases different is that the tightening is not limited to one specific route. Congestion and space shortages are now appearing across multiple global trades at the same time.
